For years I’ve used music, theater, painting, and photography to express myself. But life is complicated and messy. Sometimes a single art form isn’t enough to fully express an artist’s vision. That’s why I’ve added performance art to my creative palette.
My performance piece Fly Away began its life many years ago as lyrics to song that I hadn’t yet composed. I wrote the lyrics at a bittersweet time—my child was leaving the nest to begin his adult life. “Fly Away” could have remained a song, but over the years people have told me that it touches them deeply. The experience of leaving home, of being left, and of starting over is primal and universal. Performance art is the best way for me to tell this story.
Currently I’m working on a new performance art piece titled The Untethered Woman.
